how to verify a record in other table before delete in another table ?

hi,

i want to delete a record from MASTER Table, but before that i want to check that record is used in Transaction table or not. if that record is NOT used in Transaction Table then it should be deleted else not. how do i do these?

am seleting my record field from LIST box. am using Access for tables and am using DAO mathod for my codeing in vb6.
